NC9WX - Official Call Sign of the DuPage County ARES
The DuPage County Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) operates under the call sign NC9WX which is utilized to identify the net control station during ARES communication net activities and during special events such as Field Day and the like.
NC9WX has a special meaning - "November Charlie" in the International Code of Signals used by mariners around the world, is the two-flag hoist meaning "I wish to communicate." "9" is, of course, our call area here in DuPage County, Illinois, and "WX" is the commonly accepted abbreviation for "weather." And although severe weather related operations and communications is only part of the DuPage County ARES mission, it is certainly an important one.
