National Weather Service SKYWARN

The SKYWARN program at National Weather Service Forecast Office (WFO) Romeoville/Chicago consists of spotters who watch the sky during threatening weather conditions.  The spotters are emergency management, fire and police personnel, amateur radio operators and trained citizens.

Illinois ARES® is the Amateur Radio Emergency Service® in the Illinois Section. The Illinois Section is part of the Central Division of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL).

Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service

The Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) was established under the Federal Communications Commission Rules and Regulations, as part of the amateur radio service.
